NVIDIA CUDA とは

NVIDIA Corporation（エヌビディアコーポレーション、NASDAQ : NVDA）は、アメリカ合衆国カリフォルニア州サンタクララにある半導体メーカーです。コンピュータのグラフィックス処理や演算処理の高速化を主な目的とするGPU (グラフィックス・プロセッシング・ユニット)を設計し開発します。 CUDA（Compute Unified Device Architecture：クーダ）とは、NVIDIA が提供する GPU 向けの C 言語の統合開発環境であり、コンパイラやライブラリなどから構成されています。

GPU向けのプログラミング環境としてはCgを用いたものもありますが、こちらは CG 描画用の専用のプログラミング環境となっており、変数の型に GPU 特有の型しか使えないなど汎用的なプログラムの記述は困難です。CUDA では、C 言語ライクな言語を採用しているため、汎用コンピューティングに適しています。GPU はシンプルな演算ユニットを多数搭載している。そのため、並行性の高い演算処理を行う場合、少数で複雑な構成を備えた同規模の CPU と比べて高い処理性能が出せます。

対応環境

♦ハードウェア:専用のドライバを必要とするため、GeForce8 シリーズ以上(ネットブック/トップ用の NVIDIA ION を含む)もしくは NVIDIA Tesla や NVIDIA Quadro です。Tesla はハイパフォーマンスコンピューティング用、Quadro はワークステーション用です。詳細は、CUDA を使用可能な GPU 製品を参照してください。

♦OS:現時点での対応 OS は 32bit 版及び 64bit 版Windows XP 以降、Fedora 7 以降、Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 以降、SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10-SP1、OpenSUSE 10.1 以降、Ubuntu 7.04 以降、Mac OS X 10.5.2 以降です。
